Why you need to keep water bottles away from light exposure

How does light affect water bottles?

"Store the bottle in a place protected from sunlight or frost" – you see such messages on almost all water bottles and bottles – and La Fântâna cans are, of course, no exception.

We always tell our customers, in all ways, that it takes some clear conditions for the water cooler to be both good tasting and safe for consumption. However, we encountered cases where we were criticized for the quality of the water – when the water had been delivered in compliance with all norms and standards. The problem turned out to be one of storage, at the customer. Many of these situations are related to the exposure of water cans in improper conditions.

The best-known example is the occurrence of algae in the bidon.

Explanation:

The appearance of algae is not abnormal at all. Suppose the water is not microbiologically filtered or treated by chlorination, like mains water (because the law prohibits these types of treatments for spring water and mineral water). In that case, algae spores will naturally exist in the water. Algae exist everywhere in nature – they exist naturally, for example, on all rocks through which water passes and not only. Algal spores are microscopic and are carried very easily by dust particles. If the water bottle stays in contact with light (especially sunlight) for a long time, the spores "activate”, and algae become visible. Any kind of water can contain algae spores which develop in the presence of sunlight. More so as we are talking about spring water or mineral water, which are untreated waters (this is mandatory by law).

It should be noted that these spores do not pose any health problems - nor do the algae themselves. But they pose appearance problems – and you don't feel like drinking from water with algae on the inside! However, it is good to remember that the phenomenon is absolutely that this can happen for spring and mineral water, which are not treated in any way.

What to do to avoid the "resurrection" of spores:

  • Store water bottles away from direct sun exposure.

  • Do not leave them in a dusty environment, because dust particles can also bring algae spores with them.

  • Do not forget to remove the hygienic label from the rod stopper before it is placed on the machine; Also, do not forget to wipe with a disposable cloth dust and traces of water from the area where the can will be placed on the machine.

  • If you have the water cooler in a place exposed directly to the sun, move it QUICKLY from there to a clean and shady corner.

  • If you have a plant in the vicinity of the water cooler, move it from there. In addition, do not forget that a 19 l bottle of water must be consumed within three weeks of unsealing!

And if you consider the above, you will save yourself the inconvenience of seeing "green" when you want to see the most crystalline water!
